O instrumento de radar da nave espacial, MARSIS (Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding) revelou um reservat\u00f3rio subterr\u00e2neo em 2018, enterrado cerca de 1,5 km abaixo do gelo. Agora, levando em considera\u00e7\u00e3o mais dados e analisando-os de uma maneira diferente, foram descobertas tr\u00eas novas lagoas. O maior lago subterr\u00e2neo mede cerca de 20 x 30 km e \u00e9 cercado por v\u00e1rias lagoas mais pequenas. A \u00e1gua \u00e9 considerada muito salgada, para permanecer l\u00edquida a baixas temperaturas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marte j\u00e1 foi mais quente e h\u00famido, com \u00e1gua fluindo pela superf\u00edcie, parecido \u00e0 Terra primitiva. Embora n\u00e3o seja poss\u00edvel que a \u00e1gua permane\u00e7a est\u00e1vel \u00e0 superf\u00edcie hoje, o novo resultado abre a possibilidade de que todo um sistema de lagos antigos possa existir no subsolo, talvez com milh\u00f5es ou mesmo milhares de milh\u00f5es de anos. Seriam locais ideais para procurar evid\u00eancias de vida em Marte, embora muito dif\u00edceis de alcan\u00e7ar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Os lagos subglaciais tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o conhecidos na Terra, como o Lago Vostok na Ant\u00e1rtica. Podem abrigar ecossistemas \u00fanicos, fornecendo analogias \u00fateis para astrobi\u00f3logos que exploram como a vida pode sobreviver em ambientes extremos.
